I woke up yesterday tired, sad, and unwilling to move. With as much heartache and despair going on in the world this week, I found it difficult to do absolutely anything. And more than likely I wasn't alone in this. More than likely these feelings were magnified tremendously for some.
I literally sat around my house the entire day. The only movements I really made were to pick my cat up and hold him. Animals really do have this way of making one feel a little bit more at ease.
So as a poorly crafted distraction from the world today, here are a few reasons why my cat is better than any dog out there. (Because we all know that if it really is a debate between cats and dogs, cats would win every time) All photos starring the best of kitten babies: my cat, Oliver.
1. Cats Make you work for their love
Listen, I'm not the type of person that wants a fur ball all over me all the time. And if I am in need of some love from my pet, I want to work for it. I want to feel belittled and hated. All of the things that if compared to a human to human relationship, would be worthy of seeing a therapist.
2. Cats know when the real time of day is: Night.
Because all of us know that when the sun is out that actually means it's time to sleep. The real party doesn't start until after midnight. And when the party starts, the house is torn. up.
3. Cats don't have it together, just like us.
One second they want their belly scratched and the next they want to fight you. It's okay. None of us really know what we want. With this in mind, we can feel a little bit better about opting out of that lunch date with the girl from high school. It's okay to change your mind.
4. They can fall on their feet every single time
Cat falls off the counter-top? No problem! They stick the landing. As for us, we just fall on our faces every time. Seriously, how do they do that?
5. They find the absolute best hiding places
I really could have used these skills when I was a kid. Or even now when I have a term paper due or have to clean the pile of dishes I've neglected for weeks.
6. They know when we're sad
And know to stop being a jerk for 5 seconds to cuddle, even for a moment. On the days where we need a little bit of hope. On the days where we feel like there's nothing left to be hopeful for. On the days where we spend every minute praying for deliverance. They are there to remind us that while the world is broken and crazy, there is a little bit of love left.
