As our youth in college slowly starts to transition to a period of time where going out is dutifully labeled as a “required norm,” it puts many young people in a position where they feel like partying is practically a requirement to live life to the fullest before they have children or take on a career. And while staying in may seem like the so-called “lame” route to take in your college years, I discovered (through some first-hand experiences), that there are way more awesome reasons why staying in almost always trumps going out and partying.
1. It saves money.
Getting to save a few extra bucks is always a win, especially for a broke college student. Not only do you get to save money on alcohol, which is expensive, but also the occasional bar fees, parking passes and any other expenses that may accompany going out and being “cool.”
2. You can be yourself/have alone time.
Although its fun to go out and spend time with friends and new people, it's always harmful to neglect some much needed and peaceful time alone!
3. You get to wear what you want.
You never have to worry about looking your finest when snuggled up watching your favorite Netflix movie or simply reading a great book.
4. There are no creepy drunk people trying to hit on you.
Always the worst part of going out: being given unwanted attention by people who are heavily intoxicated and invading your personal space. So not cool.
5. You get to use your own bathroom.
No dingy bathroom stalls, wait times, or a toilet that’s been covered in puke.
6. You can spend time with your pets and blankets.
There’s no feeling like the explicit joy of staying home wrapped in a burrito of blankets with the one who makes everything feel exactly right in the world: Your favorite pet.
