6 Reasons I Love Having A Roommate

When my roommate left me for a few days, it became obvious how much I need to have her around.

Coming into college, I dreaded having a roommate. I was so used to having my own room and my own space that the thought of sharing a shoebox sized room with someone was unimaginable. Now as a sophomore who is living with one of her best friends, I can honestly say that I love having a roommate, which is a sentence I never thought would come out of my mouth.

My roommate recently left me for a couple of days to go spend some time with her family, which made me realize how much I truly depend on her for random, every day things. Here are six reasons why I love having a roommate, which became very apparent to me once mine was gone.

1. She keeps me company

It was always a little sad coming back from class and not seeing her to tell her about my day. Even we are are just hanging out in our room doing our own things, it is still nice to have company at all times. We practically do everything together, so when she isn't here something always feels a little off.

2. She gives me outfit advice

Trying out outfits in the morning isn't the same when you don't have someone telling you whether or not something looks good.

3. She is a built in dinner date

When she is here, I never have to worry about who I am getting dinner with since I know I can always convince her to come with me. While I have other friends, its nice to know that there is always that one person I can rely on to eat at the same time as me.

4. She keeps me from just throwing my things on the ground

The second my roommate left, I noticed that I became messier. I would leave my shoes in the middle of the carpet or not worry about making my bed. Having her here gives me more responsibility to keep my stuff tidy, which I realized I really need.

5. She is the first person I want to tell when something crazy happens

Being roommates, we have a special bond where she is usually the first person I need to tell when something crazy amazing, horrible or weird happens. Even though I can text her, it isn't the same as seeing her reaction in person.

6. I sleep better when she is here

I am always listening to make sure that my roommate gets back from studying late or a night out, so when she isn't actually here, I never sleep as well since I am always waiting for her to click into our room.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
