I've always considered myself lucky to live in Michigan because we get to experience all four seasons. While I've never been a fan of cold winter weather, I can't help but feel mesmerized by how beautiful snow covered trees look, or the joy I feel every time I get to build a snowman. Winter makes me appreciate spring, summer and fall because it's during that cold weather that I realize how much I appreciate sunny days, blue skies and flowers blowing in the wind.

Despite the fact that Phil the groundhog saw his shadow this year, declaring six more weeks of winter, spring is upon us and there are 6 reasons to look forward to this wonderful season.

1. Warm weather

Every season brings a few chilly days from time to time, but spring calls for many warm days ahead. Rarely will the temperature fall below 50 in spring, summer and fall, which means you can finally pack up your winter jacket and snow boots and pull your swimsuit, mini dresses and shorts out of the closet.

2. Baseball

Spring training may have started a few weeks ago, but spring is the season for baseball because opening day is coming up. Not everyone loves baseball, but I live for those warm sunny days sitting in a stadium with 40,000 other people cheering for our favorite team while snacking on a hot dog and popcorn. The start of spring means we get to enjoy baseball for the next few months while we look forward to football and basketball season.

3. School is almost out for the summer

Finals week may be coming up in less than two months (which is basically the worst week of every college student's life), but after finals week summer is in session which means we can kick back, get a tan, relax and enjoy the long break that we deserve after working our butt off to get that four-point.

4. Outdoor ice cream stands open

Yes, you will no longer have to fuel your ice cream craving with store-bought ice cream. Outdoor ice cream stands like Dairy Queen may have opened before the start of the new season, but spring is when you can find an open ice cream stand on every block.

5. The days are longer

I know how difficult it is to lose an hour of sleep during daylights savings (unless you live in Arizona), but I consider it a great thing because it means the days are only getting longer. Rather than the sun set around 5 p.m. or so, you start to notice that it's still light out around 8 p.m. With the days getting longer, you can spend more time outside because you'll still be able to see and feel the fresh air and sun on your skin.

6. You're happier

Yes, seasonal affective disorder is a real disease. This means that people who are mentally healthy throughout most of the year experience depression during a certain period of time every year; most people have seasonal affective disorder during the winter. Once the temperature warms up, their mental health is back to normal and they go along their way. I don't have this disease, but I definitely feel a lot happier and energized during spring, summer and fall because I don't have to worry about slipping on ice or layering up every time I walk outside.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
