Donald Trump recently released his proposed budget, which has sparked numerous conversations and is already controversial, due to the proposed cuts Trump has made to several agencies. With that said, here is a quick run-down of 6 agencies/departments that will be affected if this proposed budget is passed by Congress.
Note: 73 percent of the budget is allocated to mandatory spending, which includes the national debt and social security and is required by existing law. The other 27 percent is called discretionary spending, which is what this article and Trump's proposal are focusing on.
1. The Environmental Protection Agency
This agency will suffer the largest loss (in terms of percentage of its budget), with a cut of 31 percent. Programs that will be eliminated include Energy Star (which provides grants to aid states and cities in combating air pollution), as well as efforts to cleanup the Great Lakes.
2. The National Endowment of the Arts
Under Trump's budget proposal, this program will lose all of its federal funding. The National Endowment of the Arts provides grants to states which can be used to help young writers hone their crafts and young actors get some of their first jobs.
3. The building of a "Border Wall"
Trump's budget would allocate 2.6 billion of United States, not Mexican, dollars to commence building of a wall on the southern border of the United States.
4. The National Institutes of Health
This agency is one of the largest fund providers, in the entire world, of biomedical research on diseases such as cancer. It would lose 5.1 billion dollars under Trump's plan.
5. Defense and foreign relations
The budget proposes an increase in defense spending by 54 billion dollars while reducing the amount of money paid by the USA to the United Nations for climate change and peacekeeping programs.
