Going into my senior year I am terrified. And when I say terrified, I mean terrified. It's officially time to start looking for jobs, finding a stable relationship, and quitting binge drinking. It also means tailoring my life for the real world— which means a brand new wardrobe.
Going into college, I was the oldest and didn't have anyone to tell me the "do's and don'ts" of college dressing. So, naturally, I brought stilettos and ball gowns because I thought I was going to need them in Central Pennsylvania.
Being three years older and a little wiser, I think I've nailed this whole college wardrobe look and would like to impart some knowledge on you— the new bright eyed and bushy tailed freshmen:
1. A good pair of black jeans/shorts.
I suggest PacSun or American Eagle— you are going to use these all the time. From going to the frats on a Thursday, to dressing nice for a dinner with your friends during the week, a pair of black jeans never goes out of style.
2. Jean Skirt.
Ok— this is a new staple but they are so in right now. You can pair so many things with them from long sleeve shirts, to crop tops, or even a lettered t-shirt. So many places have cute ones but Forever21 has the cheapest (no promises they will last forever).
3. Frat Crop Tops.
This is such an essential because you can pair them with almost anything like jeans to envelope skirts, regular skirts and just a pair of black shorts— crop tops will get you so far. I suggest Romwe.com or Shein.com because they are the cheapest and you can get the most bang for your buck— but Tobi.com is awesome as well if you're willing to spend a little more on your clothing.
4. Rompers, rompers, rompers.
Off the shoulder, cute playful rompers are an absolute staple. From day-longs to game days, if you get the right colors they can be worn at anytime. My favorite place to get rompers is Boohoo.com because they are cheap, fit nice and will last you more than two days.
5. Nike shorts.
I wear Nike shorts like they are my religion— to class, the library, work, everywhere. Even when it's cold outside you can catch me in Nike shorts and a big Penn State sweater trekking to class. This is one of the items you might as well spend the money on because you're going to be using them so religiously.
6. Sorority Gear (and fraternity)
Sorry, you'll just have to aquire this section. But be prepared— it will slowly eat your entire closet until your mom asks you if any of the nice clothing she bought you is still around.
Anything else is truly extra— stock your closet with these essentials and you're college ready.
