Most people, including myself, want to travel the world, but don't necessarily have the money to do so. Well, I have some travel secrets that can make it possible for you to travel. Throughout the years, I have accumulated travel tips from personal experiences and those of friends that I'm now willing to share.
Below are six money-saving travel secrets, enjoy!
1. Use Skyscanner
Skyscanner is a global travel search site that connects people directly to everything the travel industry has to offer. The site allows one to plan and book directly from millions of travel options at the best price. In addition, I suggest using google flights as a reference price point to ensure a good deal when looking at flights in particular.
2. Book an Airbnb with a group of friends
Instead of traveling with one friend or staying at a hotel, book an Airbnb with a group of friends, and save a ton of money. When there are more people, it is cheaper because there are more bodies to divide the costs upon. Also, Airbnb's can be more affordable than hotels and some can actually be much nicer.
3. The closer the location, the cheaper it is
This can seem like an obvious tip, but you don't have to travel across the globe to have fun and explore. If you are really on a tight budget, I would suggest traveling somewhere that is not super far from your current location. For example, if you live in the pacific northwest, you can go to California and visit Beverly Hills, or Malibu, and still have a fun time without hurting your wallet so much.
4. Search up all the free things you can do around the area
Before you decide to pay for that really expensive art exhibit ticket, explore all the free options the area you are exploring has to offer. Many and most beaches, parks, promenades, and monuments are free to explore. If you really just take advantage of all the free things to do, you'll be amazed at how much fun you can have without spending lots of money.
5. Save your money for iconic restaurants instead of going out to eat every day
Instead of eating out every day, which can add up, buy groceries and have simple meals, and only go out once or twice to restaurants that are iconic to the region or restaurants you really want to eat at in general. When I have traveled, I usually ate breakfast and dinner from where I was staying at and ate lunch out. I also always went out on a fancy dinner on the last night as a way of ending the trip well.
6. Use local transit or walk
Local transit can be very cheap and of course, walking is free. Not only are the local transit and walking economical but they also allow for more exposure to locals and their culture; this can be a very cool experience, especially if you like being worldly. Furthermore, if you are wanting to go somewhere further, then Uber can also be a good option.
In the end, if you want to travel, make it happen. I promise you it's worth it. How exactly do you make travel happen you may ask? Well, you can start by making a chart of where you spend your money and start restricting certain things. For example, if you buy a coffee every morning, you could start making coffee at home and save that money for a trip to Bali! It sounds simple but of course, it takes time to plan and save up, however, it's not impossible, and you can do it!
