The first semester of college is over and for a lot of us that means relief -- until the next semester, anyway. There are a lot of things I didn't know as a freshman going into college, a lot of things I really wish I didn't freak out about and quite a few things that I've still yet to figure out going into my second semester. But for anyone who's been there or soon to be there, here are some things I really wish I knew before going to college.

1. It's fun!

For some reason in my big crazy mind, I had envisioned that I would be swimming in notes, textbooks and sadness. In reality, the professors give us homework maybe once a week, so I can do it all in increments and study all week and spend the rest of the time listening to "Pony" by Ginuwine on repeat.

2. I use very little of what I learned in high school -- college is a new beginning!

One of the best things about college is that I'm learning about all new things that interest me and I'm enjoying them! (Aside from the 12 Spanish words and rules of English that I learned in high school.) But hey, I'm not exactly a math major either.

3. You can pursue what you want, and independence is a blessing.

You're on your own now and the world is your oyster! Want a job? Go for it. Think that guy is cute? Date him. Want to spend every last penny you have on a hoodie? Do it! You're a grown woman and you can to whatever you want!

4. You can pursue what you want and independence is a curse.

You're on your own now, which means you have to make at least one really terrible decision a week. Think that guy is cute? Wait didn't he just call that girl the "b-word"? Want to spend every last penny you have on a hoodie? Go ahead, don't let your parents control you, but what's for dinner tomorrow?

5. "Me time" is necessary.

Eating ice cream by yourself (although maybe not the healthiest of choices) every so often may be essential to keep your sanity. Talk to yourself in the mirror, read a funny comic, watch a dancing video and imagine you're one of the dancers. Give yourself a little bit of time dedicated to you each day to prevent college craziness.

6. College is easy.

Everything aside, if you manage your time and stay focused, college will be an easy experience. The most important thing to remember your first semester is that you can conquer anything that comes your way. Think positively and your actions will reflect that!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
