With October 27th looming, many people are anticipating the release of "Stranger Things" season 2 on Netflix. After receiving a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and 18 Emmy nominations, the Netflix original series has proved itself to live up to the hype, leaving no fans disappointed. With its terrific 1980's atmosphere and sci-fi movie vibe, "Stranger Things" captures its audience with character and set design, music, and dialogue. There are a few aspects of the show that I am really hoping to get a little bit more of in the upcoming season. Here is a list of the top 6 things I hope to see in "Stranger Things" season 2.
1. More of Winona Ryder's crazy
Joyce Byers gave herself the reputation of being the crazy woman with the lights; but can any of us say that we don't love her? In an interview with Winona, she stated that she thought there was a possibility that she had gone overboard with the character— I disagree. While maybe not every mother would have been as distraught as Joyce came across, her performance was incredibly believable and brought tears to my eyes more than once.
In season 2, I'm really hoping for Joyce to stay the same and be the not-too-close-to-sane mother she is. I want more crazy ideas like the iconic lights and alphabet on the wall scene or buying several phones a day apart from each other. Hopefully, this will be the case as we all know something is still up with Will; and Joyce will not stand for that.
2. Will = Demogorgon 2.0 or just crazy?
At the end of season 1, Will, Jonathon and Joyce are all sitting around the table about to eat dinner. Will gets up to "wash his hands" but instead ends up just staring at himself in the bathroom mirror before vomiting up a slug. All of a sudden, it appears as though Will is in the "upside-down" again before it flashes back to reality. There are a few different things that this could possibly mean. When Will was rescued, Hopper had to pull a long, alien-like worm out of Will's mouth. While he is doing this, he has a flashback to his daughter in a hospital bed.
Personally, I've seen enough alien films in my life to know that if there is something shoved down your throat, you probably have alien babies in you. I don't think this is the route "Stranger Things" would ever take because it's gross as all hell but I do think that it was an important detail that may or may not relate to him throwing up the slug. So, is Will now infected with some disease from the Demogorgon? Has he not actually been rescued from the upside-down? Or is it simply that there has to be some gross aftermath and hallucinations after enduring something like that?
What I truly think is the case relates to the flashback that Hopper had. I believe the Demogorgon was trying to keep Will alive with the disgusting worm down his throat as this is similar to the breathing tube Hopper's daughter had in his flashback. The reason the Demogorgon would do this instead of just kill Will is still a bit unclear, but that is my speculation.
3. More of Hopper just being Hopper
"Mornings are for coffee and contemplation," this man speaks to my soul. Hopper started out being not so great, considering he seemed to not care so much that Will was missing. However, as the show progressed it was clear that he was not going to give up until he found him. He went so far as to perform his own autopsy on the body that was recovered from the lake. It takes a lot of guts to be able to cut open a kid that already had an "autopsy" done. I'm really hoping for some more Hopper sarcasm and badass missions to take down anyone who stands in his way.
I also think Hopper might be hiding something considering the very end scene when he brought food into the woods and placed it in a little box. You know why? There were Eggo's.
4. Nancy and Jonathan
Let me start by saying, I don't have anything against Steve really, I just don't like him more than Jonathan. Steve could have been a much bigger jerk than he was and I want to give him his due credit. However, the dynamic between Jonathan and Nancy was so much better. Any man who will help you fight a monster that neither one of you has the equipment, strength, or ability to defeat is someone worth keeping.
Also, after Jonathan saves Nancy from the Demogorgon by pulling her out of the tree, their relationship reached another level. Nancy started to look to him for safety, wanting to be near him when she was afraid. He also totally pounded Steve into the dirt, which was fun.
5. Return of 011
Now, this one is unlike the others listed because we all know this one happens... well, that is if you've seen the trailer for season 2. Now where El ended up after that final showoff between her and the Demogorgon is the question. Also, it was made somewhat clear that Hopper knew she was still alive, and keeping her safe, or at least fed like I mentioned earlier.
What I'm wondering is if she is just out there in the woods somewhere, why wouldn't she seek out the boys again? It makes me wonder if maybe she found a way to contact Hopper but isn't actually around? Maybe she is stuck in the upside-down and Hopper is trying to help her or waiting for her to come back?
6. More monsters
It's always exciting when TV shows give you unique and original monsters to be afraid of. One that can climb through your walls is one that you don't want to face... ever. Hopefully in season 2 we will get some more monsters that are bigger and better.
If you've seen the trailer, you know that there is something HUGE looming in the sky. What this is, we don't know. What we do know is it's going to turn into a big problem.
