If you're reading this, congratulations! You got through another year of college. Any college student would know how stressful the year can be, and will always know how accomplishing it feels when it’s completely over (the sophomore slump is a real thing). Summer was on our minds from the beginning of the year, and now we can finally enjoy it. It’s unbelievable to think how fast it flew by. Reflecting back on this school year, it is bittersweet to say farewell to certain things that happened in it for the summer.
1) Goodbye to the loads of stress from sophomore projects that were pretty important in our college careers.
I can definitely say that summer will be relaxing, being able to take a break from all those nights spent staying up late writing essays, finishing projects, and most likely crying from every single one of them. It will be nice in the summer to actually go to bed on time (okay, maybe for a few days….).
2) Goodbye to the teachers that pushed me to do my best, but gave more assignments than I was ever used to.
I have to thank those teachers to snapping me out of the so-called “sophomore slump” and forcing me to get my act together when it came to working on assignments that would be ideal for my major.
3) Goodbye to my different eating schedule.
I was always living off of Mac and Cheese to-go, granola bars, and to-go boxes from the dining hall. I may have even lost some weight from these meals, which wasn’t in the plan this school year.
4) Goodbye to freshman year friends, and see you soon sophomore friends
This year also provided me with a new friends group. It taught me that the friends you might have made in freshman year might not stick around for sophomore year - but that’s okay. You learn who your true “squad” is, and the memories you make with them will be more memorable than most from your first year. I’m so thankful I found my group I am in now because I know I for sure I will have these friends for life after college. I’ll miss them for the next 3 months for summer, but how exciting it will be to start a new year with them.
5) Goodbye to the friends who decided to transfer
This year was the transition year in which some of my friends had decided to move on to a different school and finish their degrees there. Yes, this is heartbreaking in college because unlike high school, you can’t go home and expect your friends to be there. They are from all over the country, which really gets difficult when you all want to get together. I will miss them, but I’m happy they are doing what’s best for their future.
6) Goodbye to daydreaming of adulthood.
Sophomore year is also the year that you realize you only have two more years left in the college life. You have to move on soon which can be pretty scary to think about. Junior and Senior year will have you making big decisions for the future, such as looking for jobs, finding apartments to live in, and making a new life style.
So, goodbye sophomore year. You may have been tough, but after having 2 years of college under my belt, I can say I’m ready to take on 2 more.
Junior year, I look forward to what you have in store for me.
