You probably figured that there were quite a few things different between the United States and England. There are a few things that I expected to be different, like the fact that England has a queen and the United States has a president, but even just having been here for a few days, I have found a lot of smaller things that you wouldn't think would be all that different between the two countries but actually are:
1. England uses more coin currency than the U.S.
They have coins that equal to a dime, nickel, and penny like we do in the U.S. but they also use coins that are worth two pounds and one pound which is cool too.
2. It's called "take away" instead of "to go"
The first day I was here, I ordered a coffee for "sit in" and I wasn't able to finish it so I asked for a to-go cup. The guy behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy but thankfully one of the other employees knew what I meant and gave me a to-go cup.
3. The computer keyboards look a little different
This actually really threw me off the first time I went to the library on my campus. I was trying to type in my email and I couldn't find the @ symbol.
4. Supermarkets don't refrigerate eggs
They're not refrigerated in stores and a lot of people don't refrigerate them at home either.
5. They have this amazing drink called Rubicon
If the U.S. could get this soon, I would be really appreciative because this stuff is bangin'. Like it is just SO good. I really love the mango one and the pineapple and coconut.
6. Tax is already included in the price
As someone who's never been good at math, I really appreciate this. If a price tag says 0.99, that's exactly what it costs because the price is already included.
There are six things I have recently learned are a bit different between the U.S. and England, but I just got here so I'm sure there is much more to come!
