Personally, one of my favorite websites is Pinterest. I think one of the best times to use it is before school starts because you can make some pretty great décor for your dorm room. I have made a list of some décor to make that would look great in your room and be useful.
1. Ping pong fairy lights.
For this, all you have to do is buy fairy lights and a bag of ping pong balls. Use an X-Acto knife to cut an 'x' into the ball then stick it onto one of the lights. This will give your fairy lights a nice retro look. You could use clothespins to hang pictures onto the light line or put colored ping pong balls on the lights. It adds more color to the room.
2. Ice dyed tapestry.
Tapestries are one of the best parts of a room. They add a great amount of color as well as a cozy place in the room. I hang mine on the wall along my bed, and it makes it that much better. This version of tie-dying is a little bit more difficult, but there is a different and such a unique aspect to it that no one else's tapestries will have.
3. Picture frame white board.
For this project, pick up a picture frame and some Expo markers. You can make it personal by putting a picture of you and your friends in it or your pet. Or, you could also just put a piece of cloth in the frame so your writing will stand out more. Then, you simply write whatever you want on the glass. You can even use it to schedule out events and tests/quizzes.
4. Pom pom garland.
Get different colored yarn and wrap them in balls. Tie the middle and cut the ends of the yarn ball. Thread some yarn through each ball and then let them hang as some decoration! If you want to spruce them up a little more, paper clip your favorite papers along the string. You can even wrap the ping pong fairy lights around them!
5. String art.
Grab a wood board, a hammer, some small nails, and some thread. It is pretty simple on how this project is done. Use the nails to outline what you want on the board and lightly hammer them into the wood. Use the strings to fill in the words. If this doesn't have enough decoration for you, then you can paint or burn the wood before you put in the nails. This is something that I have always wanted to make. It is a completely personal project. You can either put a word or picture on the board. I always wanted to put an outline of Pennsylvania on it with a heart where my hometown was so then I could hang it up as a homey piece.
6. Photo collage letters.
Find some wooden letters, print some pictures, and buy some Hodge Podge. This is one of the simplest decorations you can make. Paint the Hodge Podge on the letters, stick on the pictures, then cover the letters again with Hodge Podge and there you go!
Happy crafting and happy new semester!
