I have grown up listening to show tunes. With a sister who got her bachelor's in musical theatre, I know a thing or two about the bright lights of Broadway, but I never really took the time to look around and see how many people didn't know as much about Broadway as I did. Even worse, some people do not like show tunes. So I have made it my mission to make people like show tunes, starting with Broadway musicals that don't fit the standard show tune genre.
1. "Dear Evan Hansen."
Of course I would put this one on here, but it is an extremely good soundtrack with an amazing story.
2. "Hadestown."
"Hadestown" tells its own story of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
3. "Six."
The ex-wives of King Henry VIII come back to life and start a pop girl group telling their side of the story.
4. "Come From Away."
The town of Gander in Newfoundland homes "come from aways" on September 11, 2001. This is a story of family, love, hope, and hurt, so it is sure to get you in your feelings.
5. "Rent."
"Rent" defies all broadway musical standards with a rock-and-roll meets show tunes vibe- you are for sure going to love it!
