1. Feeling completely overwhelmed.
We are super used to not having a lot of things going on since we aren't thrown into the hustle and bustle of big cities, but there is constantly 15 million things going on at big universities. The constant hustle and bustle of a university can easily be compared to that of a big city which is definitely not what us small town gals are used to.
2. Struggling with not knowing everyone in your classes.
I don't know about other small-towns, but in mine, everybody knew everybody and it was very easy to remember the names of each and every one of your fellow classmates. Yup. This just does not happen in 300 person lecture rooms.
3. Having a relationship with teachers and faculty.
While it is possible to create a strong professional relationship with your professors, it also can be rare. If you are from a small town it is actually super easy to have teachers become more like mentors and role models, this just does not get to happen as easily at a big university where your professor can barely even remember your name
4. Missing your local shops.
I love my little local restaurant and small-town coffee shop, it really is one thing I miss about my small town. The coffee at school just isn't the same.
5. Knowing where everything is.
I know every single hidden nook and cranny of my little town but at a big university, it is so easy to get lost. It is way different than a small town and it is easy to get lost. I've already been here for a year and I still find myself getting confused or finding a new area every day. It is a lot different than your little ole small town.
These things may seem silly to some but it is true for me and most of the small-towners I've gotten to know over the year.
