With the ball dropping in Times Squares comes many determined people to make 2018 THEIR YEAR. And while making resolutions are a good idea many people tend to fall short. I believe that the people who break resolutions are those who focus on material things, rather than hoping to grow as a person. Hopefully, these resolutions are ideas that can help you actually look back on 2018 feeling as though you got as much out of the year as you could.

1. Don't compare yourself to others.

This is a resolution that can be hard, but in the long run, will make you much happier. Don't think that because your friend didn't have two scoops of ice cream, you can't. Eat that ice cream, girl!

2. Don't diet to just look better.

If you want to eat better to feel better, than go for it! But if you want to lose weight just because you think you would get more instagram likes, than pick a different resolution that will help you feel better about yourself.

3. Write down one positive thing you did each day.

This is my personal resolution for the year and I already love it. It reminds you that whatever happened during the day, there was at least one good thing that happened.

4. Meditate

Meditation helps you get more in tune with yourself which can be just what you need to realize what you want out of 2018. Meditation can take you out of all the commotion and distractions of the world, allowing you to feel more centered.

5. Invest more time in your relationships.

If you are someone who tends to get caught up in the material world, this resolution could be perfect. It reminds you that material items are fleeting, but your family and friends will be by your side forever.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
