I get it. "Productive" is probably the last thing you want to hear over Thanksgiving break. If you're like me though, laying around gets old pretty quick, and you'll find yourself looking for something to do. If that's the case, this is the list for you.
1. Start Holiday Shopping
Okay, I know some of us are natural procrastinators. Heck, it's probably what some of you are best at. Nevertheless, make it a point to buy at least two gifts over the break. If you're feeling extra motivated, buy all your wrapping paper and get those bad boys ready to gift.
2. Call Grandma
Whether she goes by meemaw, mamaw, gamma or grandma, give her a call this week. There's nothing quite like hearing from family you don't see very often.
If gram and gramps happen to be visiting for Thanksgiving, take some time to sit down and have a one-on-one conversation with them. Something about getting to know the matriarchy/patriarchy of your family just gets you in the feels. Plus, they can probably give you some pretty funny stories about dear ol' mom and dad.
3. Learn To Play A Song
Maybe you've always liked listening to music but never took the time to learn something yourself. Well, you've got nothing but time this week people. Unless of course, your awful professor left you a huge assignment over the break. In that case, I feel for you.
Some instruments are surprisingly easy to learn. Piano, ukulele, and harmonica are my top three favorites. "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Holly Jolly Christmas" are my go-to piano songs. If you're a grade-A newb, learn "Happy Birthday" on either the piano or harmonica. It shouldn't take longer than ten minutes. "I'm Yours" is a popular and easy song to play on the uke. Go for it.
4. Pay It Forward
This is something we should all strive to do on a regular basis, but in the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, go out of your way to give. That might mean spending an afternoon serving meals for the homeless, or maybe just covering someone's bill at the drive-thru. Although it feels great to help others, do it because you never know what other people are going through.
