The transition from high school and living with your family to college can be difficult for many students. Personally, I remember how sad I was when I had to say goodbye to my parents the day I moved in but luckily I was able to make friends quickly through outside organizations that were able to help make my transition to college less scary. The best way to get involved on campus is by attending events, putting yourself out there and making friends; I know that can be harder right now given the virtual setting for most things but I have put together a list of different ways you can meet people and get involved. Just remember there are tons of ways to get involved on campus and remember to stay safe!

1. Join Facebook groups.

Facebook groups are one of the best ways you get to know people at your school. A lot of times there are Facebook groups for everything whether it be a club, returning students or transfer students. Usually people are really friendly on the pages and will make posts about ways to get involved in certain organizations or if they are looking for a future friend/roommate. Of course, if you are going to meet up with people from Facebook remember to be safe.

2. Meet the people who are living in your dorm or apartment.

The dorm or even your apartment is a great way to meet people. Now I am not saying you need to knock on everyone's door but try to be friendly if you see someone walking around. You all might not be gathered around for meetings or sharing common space but there is no reason you still can't be friendly.

3. Meet your friends' friends.

Mutual friends is one of the best ways you can meet people in college. Last year, I met so many new friends through other friends. Again if you are going to meet up with mutual friends, please continue to space and follow the guidelines put in place by your state and the CDC.

4. Follow organizations social media accounts.

if there is a certain organization you are interested in joining, make sure to follow them on social media. A lot of organizations have been posting more on social media to keep their members in formed. They also are opting for virtual meetings in order to be able to see everyone without putting everyone at unnecessary risk. It might not be ideal but it is still a great way to get involved on campus.

5. Make sure you are following your school's social media accounts.

If you are struggling to find organizations you are interested in joining, a great place to look is your school's official social media accounts. Usually on there you can find information in regards to on-campus events whether they be in person or online. I know recently Florida State took part in a virtual student involvement fair.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
