Mental illness can be especially hard to deal with during the holidays
Most people can understand that dealing with parents after coming home on the holidays and listening to things that maybe you don't want to hear. It can be a difficult process, learning how to contain certain emotions and give yourself time to indulge in happy things and really know that things are going to be alright. It means giving back to yourself or what I like to call "treat yo self" holidays. Whether you are at home all the time at community college or just coming back home from a university, you can imagine that maybe your life isn't at it's highest point or maybe you came back with awesome grades. It is the thoughts that go on inside your head that really define what happens during the holidays. You can either enjoy them or you can sit and suffer. I am here to tell you some ways in which you can calm your mind and relax a bit.
1. Spend time alone with yourself
It is a good idea to have some time to lay down and not really think about anything or anything important. Your health and well being can be rewarded by simply keeping your phone off and shutting the world off for awhile.
2. Pamper yourself
Go to a nail salon, get your nails done. Go for a walk in the park, maybe take your dog.
3. Spend time with family and friends
A good thing to do is set up some time where you can fully relax and maybe watch a movie with some family or go do an activity with them.
4. Give some charity
It has always been good for the soul to give a little of your time to others who might have it harder then you do.
5. Remember to savor the good times, not the bad
I can imagine this might be hard, but when there are some good moments in your life, remember to cherish them before they are gone.
