If you're a commuter like me then you've lost the endearing thoughts of taking the Choo-choo anywhere. From trains to Ubers, transportation has become a snooze fest. Naps are inevitable as the scenery passes by like an adult mobile. But wait! Don't miss your stop! Heres a few suggestions to keep you awake on the long journey from bed to desk.
1) Podcasts
As shared on Instagram's Overheard New York, "Intelligence these days is just repeating whatever you've heard on a podcast." These short bursts are actually pretty informative. You can find everything on the Podcast Player app including ghost stories, politics, and medical miracles.
2) Music
Music is a great way to keep you in the dazed and confused sleep zone while giving in to stubborn eyelids. Listening to music helps prevent people from falling into rem sleep which puts you at a greater risk for missing your stop. If you're looking for some new tune suggestions, Lady Gaga, OneRepublic, Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Panic! At the Disco, and Fall Out Boy are all great options. Some colleges have radio stations that play calming, yet lively songs that are sure to make your stare out the window feel like a scored movie scene. Fordham and Pace University's stations are me and my best friend's favorites.
3) Games
Yes, this is a throwback to the days of connecting Candy Crush to your Facebook account, but come on who doesn't want to go back in time? Games add a little color and childish flare that we might not get amidst our daily activities. Temple Run and Subway Surfer can never get old!
4) Reading
Grab a book, newspaper, magazine, or article and use your underappreciated skill! We all learn to read in kindergarten, and enjoy the tales of short stories through childhood, but quickly forget about reading as a pastime when we become adults. Most people spend so much time reading assigned works that they forget reading can be fun (and totally voluntary)!
5) Youtube/Netflix
Instead of binging late into the hours of early morning, do it in the actual morning! Multi-task while commuting and breeze through your favorite season of House of Cards. Youtube also has a plethora of educational or comedic options with endless post-video suggestions to keep you busy for days.
