4 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

Make the most of dreary days.

It's that time of year again. Christmas has faded into a memory, the sparkle of the New Year has diminished, but the chill in the air remains. Winter is no longer a sparkling wonderland, but a gray and dismal sight. The joy of wearing warm sweaters has turned into a groan as you once again manage to bunch up the sleeve of your shirt in your heavy winter coat. This is my least favorite time of year, but I have decided to make the most of it. Here are my 4 ways to turn a day from dreary to dreamy.

1. Watch a Movie

Netflix was designed with days like this in mind. My personal recommendations would be Pride & Prejudice, The Prince & Me, or Stuck in Love.

2. Get an Adult Coloring Book

A new fad of adult coloring books has led to the release of many coloring books with intricate designs and mandalas. These take time and concentration to color, and there is a beautiful end result.

3. Write a Letter

Snail Mail is coming back in style, and everyone loves receiving a hand-written letter. Write to a friend or family member you haven't seen in a while and get creative with the address. Pinterest is a great place to find cool ways to address your envelopes.

4. Listen to New Music

Scour Spotify until you find a new favorite band or create an all-new playlist. You can listen to your new music while you color or write a letter.

Go ahead and make yourself some hot chocolate. Curl up under your favorite blanket and make the best of your dreary winter days!

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
