2020 is approaching fast, and many of us out there are looking forward to creating new resolutions for the year. Among those who are creating their own list of resolutions there are those who have decided to get back into reading once again, or even just add new books to their 'to be read" list. And this upcoming year has some amazing books that should definitely be added to your list.
The Lost Book of Adana Moreau by Michael Zapata
Taking place in the late 1920's in New Orleans, Louisiana, Adana Moreau is working on her science fiction novel titled Lost City. The Lost City focuses on a young Dominican teen girl that is actually pretty similar to Adana, and throughout the story shows this young teen searching for an eternal city, similar to Atlantis, that is said to exist somewhere on earth. After Adana has Lost City she starts the sequel to the novel while gaining a steady following. Decades pass and we are greeted by Saul Drower in Chicago, Illinois, who come across the manuscript for the sequel of Lost City titled, A Model Earth. After coming into contact with the manuscript, Saul travels all the way to New Orleans to find the answers to the many questions he has regarding the manuscript, as well as his own grandfather who was a Jewish immigrant that was born on a steamship.
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
A concerning letter finds its way into the hands of Noemi Taboada, and when she opens the letter to read the content she finds herself in the mist of chaos that her newly-wed cousin is in the middle of. Beseeching immediate help, Noemi finds herself heading to High Place, an isolated house in the Mexican countryside. Unsure of what she will encounter and being unfamiliar with the region, Noemi finds herself being the unexpected rescuer in the mission of trying to find and help her cousin, all the while trying to escape from High Place.

While most of the African American population were still enslaved, Charles Albert Tindley was born free but this didn't mean that his childhood would be easy. In fact, Charles would spend backbreaking hours in the fields to help out his family and put food on the table, and didn't have the opportunity to education. And although he didn't have the chance to gain education experience he did hear the spirituals performing sermons and this would create an impact on him. With the thirst to read the gospel, he begun to teach himself how to read first with the newspapers he would find. And from that he would go onto become a founding father of the American gospel music, whose hymn would become the basis of the anthem for the Civil Rights "We Shall Overcome."

Not really caring about being the Archbishop, Cesare doesn't take the position very seriously and ends up doing unethical things.
Maddalena Moretti is employed as a servant in the Vatican Palace where she watches how the nobles and other roam around the palace and city, doing questionable and moral things. When she lays eyes on Cesare everything begins to change for her. Maddalena begins to find herself questioning her faith and her own moral code, especially as she starts to fall in love with him. As war approaches the frontlines not only outside the city walls, but in the Borgia family, Maddalena begins to question about her role in the chaos that surrounds her.

It is Wood, It is Stone by Gabriella Burnham
Taking place over just a year in Brazil we follow three different women whose lives intersect and play important roles to each other. Linda is American who has moved with her husband for his job, and in that time he becomes engrossed in his work, while Linda ends up finding herself detaching and disassociating from her own body. Linda's maid, Marta, struggles to understand the insane history of her country and of the racial issues that are showing themselves all the while dealing with Linda's instability. Celia comes into the picture when she and Linda meet, and instantly Linda is enamored with Celia and her artistic point of view. The interaction and journey that Linda and Celia go on ends up affecting not only theirs, but also Marta's as well.
