It's fall and it's flu season.

I remember in high school I would want to get sick so I could skip classes, but when I actually got sick I hated it (because it just feels horrible!). As someone who recently just got sick (and in the process of recovery), I really got mad at myself for failing to do the simple tasks to avoid getting sick.

So here are some basic tips that you might be forgetting to do every day:

1. Wash your hands.

Washing your hands is such a simple, easy yet overlooked task. This is something that I'm so used to doing that if I don't do it, I feel unsanitary. You should always wash your hands, especially when you get home from school or work or when you use the bathroom. It really does help sanitize your hands because you use your hands to pretty much do everything.

2. Sanitize your surroundings.

A bit similar to washing your hands, but sanitizing your surroundings is just as important. You might have heard this already, but your phone is the dirtiest thing because you bring it everywhere and you're always touching it. Ever thought of sanitizing your phone?

3. Get good sleep.

This is another one of those everyday tasks that's overlooked. Getting a good night's sleep is so important in terms of your energy level, health and overall body cycle. Not getting enough sleep consistently definitely weakens your immune system and makes you more prone to getting sick (I learned this the hard way).

4. Avoid sick people.

As much as you might want to avoid strangers coughing in the elevator, avoid your friends and families that are sick too. Or at least wash your hands and gargle after you interact with them. I always brushed off my friends' sickness when I was trying to get a sip of their drink or a bite of their food, but don't be like that. You will get sick. It may sound extreme, but it's scary how easily germs can transfer from one body to another.

5. Recover early.

If you feel like you feel unusually tired and/or you feel slightly sick, take medicines, drink lots of fluids, and rest before it gets worse. Don't keep doing your usual routine. Don't drink alcohol and don't stay up all night studying. You will thank yourself later.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
