The hit show "Quantico," which premiered in September of 2015, has gone on to document a fiction series based on the life within the FBI, its training, and how people can live their life once out of practice. We saw a diverse cast, and the lead played by a South Asian actress Priyanka Chopra. Despite her dominant role in the series, the show managed to touch on various social issues that we identify on a regular basis here in the states. These problems that affect close to home for many people in the United States allow us to connect with the show truly.
1. As a New York native, we often see the issues pertaining injustices towards minority groups. They are targeted by people of power and those who don’t understand the religious and various traditions minorities may engage. By the end of Quantico’s first season, we saw that the South Asian girl who underwent FBI training is framed for a terrorist attack by a white male who held power in the FBI.
2. White privilege? Yes, as I minority I do believe this exists. It is something that would allow a person to be respected, paid and identified without the prejudices that the rest of us here in the United States may face. It seems that this prominent feature and quality will allow people to get far in the social ladder in the Western world.
3. If a woman mistakenly gets the role of a man, is she expected to act like a man? Is she stuck in a position that is going to just take the value of her success out of the way? Unfortunately, in careers where many roles id men prominently, women may not always be able to put her values in the way. She may suppress and expected to remain in the shadows of a man.
4. Does the sexual orientation of people change the way you're perceived? However, when a white male who may identify as part of the LGBTQ community, how is he accepted in society? How are his rights deprived? Must his sexual orientation be something he should be ashamed of? Will his success be taken away? If a white male must keep his sexual orientation hidden, to what extent does a person of color who is a part of the LGBTQ community go to ensure his/her safety? These issues pertain to the real-life scenarios that cause problems for many people living across the United States, which seem to be under flames after the election of our current POTUS.
5. If people are continuously being affected in ways that history has previously documented, then we surely are not learning. Some people are still facing offensive threats, crimes and vicious acts despite living in the 21st century. It is unfortunate that a liberal and free country like the United States is still having issues of crime against humanity despite the violent history it holds. It is an unfortunate factor that we must identify as it is something that we haven't been able to address despite the other advancements we have made in this society.
"Quantico" honestly presents the issues that many people are identifying within the modern day. What we do with it depends on what we are learning from it. Every time incidents happen, it makes the world seem like it's falling back into the history that it the United States has. Despite the issues, it appears that this show represents a fictional version of what the FBI indeed is. The connection between society and government is allowing the world to see the issues we face and continue the fight for justice.
