Just when you think winter break is the only three weeks you don't have to think about school, you're wrong. Well, at least if you're a senior.
Because nothing says "Happy New Year" like having to apply to graduate, giving your commencement attendance, and realizing you have to pay $65 to graduate and another $42 for your cap and gown.
There are a lot of thoughts going through your head right at that moment. Some bad, some good, some sad and some really scary.
1. Holy crap, I'm finally graduating!
This is easily the first one that comes to mind. You've spent most of your life in school. You spent the last four years, maybe five in college. In five months you're going to be done. It's honestly so surreal.
2. What if I don't get a job?
Honestly, I wouldn't believe a single senior who told me they weren't thinking this unless you have an internship that already offered you a job, or a family business you're going to take over. You are seriously concerned about getting a job.
3. So I have to be an adult now?
So "$2 You Call It's on a Thursday" can't be a thing when you work at 8 a.m. on Friday? Can't I roll out of bed with last night's hair and makeup for work tomorrow? That doesn't seem fair or fun. But adulting has to start eventually, right?
4. Do I have to say goodbye to my friends?
This is the hardest one for me. Luckily one of my best friends from school lives literally 10 minutes away from me. It's the ones that live hours rather than minutes away that I don't wanna say bye to.
The best part of college is that you know after break you'll all be back together again, but what about after graduation?
5. I DID IT!
For me, it was five years, four major changes, a community college and a four-year university. But I did it. Just when I thought I couldn't I did. It might be hard sometimes but at the end of the day, it's all going to be worth it.
So to all my seniors out there who can't believe we're finally in the home stretch, here's to us. Here's to enjoying our last semester of college and being able to do whatever we want.
Here's to all the hard work we've put in to make it here. Here's to the people who pushed us along the way. We ~almost~ did it.
