5 Things You Know All Too Well By Being In A Serious Relationship
Brooke Cutchen

If you're in a long relationship, you can admit that time flies, especially when you're having fun and enjoying life with that person. First, a year goes by and then before you know it you might be moving in together or making bigger plans. Or if you're like everyone from my hometown, you're already engaged or married. Here are 5 things you know all too well by being in a serious relationship:

1. You're tired of hearing, "You're too young."

"Your twenties are supposed to be the time you party and meet new people." "You're going to regret not going out with your friends." Let me just throw in my two cents here really quickly.... I've met a lot of people, maybe even more with being in a relationship, and not only did I gain another family, but I get to call my boyfriend's friend's mine as well. I wasn't really the one to go out every night anyway, but now when I do get to go out, I get to go out and come home to my boyfriend and that's something I wouldn't trade. Also, if you have a good trust level with your boyfriend like you should, you two can still go out with your friends and have a girls/guys night.

2. You buy things for the both of you.

You used to go to the mall and just buy things for you. Now, you go and see something and say to yourself, "Oh wow, this would look good on my boyfriend." Or, "This would look good in our apartment." You no longer get things for just you, it's a package deal now.

3. Burping and Farting? What is that?

When you get comfortable with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you REALLY get comfortable. Burping, farting, or even going to the bathroom together becomes something you don't even acknowledge anymore. Or if you have a relationship like mine, you fist bump and rate each other's burps and can't stop laughing and calling each other gross after one of you farts.

4. "Social Media"

Social media isn't the social media that you had in high school. The only time that you go on social media might be for school, work, or maybe to check up on old friends. Besides that, the only other time you go on social media and actually post something it will most likely be about your significant other or something that you guys did together (Because who doesn't like to show off what you have, right?).

5. You know how to have a real conversation and how to resolve a fight.

Just because you might be young doesn't mean you're not wise. When you're in a true relationship these petty little fights won't mean anything to you. You two will have been through so much that you can sit down and really take a step back and stop bickering over something that's not worth it. You two know how to communicate with each other and you don't need to question your partner because you know where they stand and where their heart is at. That is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
