5 Things You DON'T Need To Bring To College

You can if you want to, though.

I've already told you what you do need to bring to college.

Still, there's a lot of things you think you need when you move into your first dorm room. The truth is, there's not much that you necessarily need. Do you want to bring 100 pillows? Of course. Who wouldn't? But, guess what, you need one pillow. I'm not saying you can't bring these items, but here are a few thing that are just fluff.

1. Printer

It's 2016. Sure, there are classes that still require you to print, but there are printers on campus. In all honesty, the printers on campus are probably a lot nicer than any printer you may buy. Printers also take up valuable space. However, I do have a printer, and I do use it. However, I don't use it that often, just when I have little things to print off. It's not a bad idea to bring a printer, but you don't need one.

2. Candles

I love candles. I really do. But, a lot of dorms don't allow candles, or anything that requires matches. If you like scents, I suggest either plug ins or diffusers. Essential oils are a great option because they smell great, but can also improve your health.

3. A TV

Okay, another thing I have, and I used. However, it's not a necessity. I didn't really start using my TV until I got an AppleTV (again, not a need, but I love it). Sure, it's nice to be able to watch DVDs or whatever, but a lot of colleges don't have many TV channels, if that's what you're wanting. Plus, with streaming, you can use your laptop to stream, so you don't even need a TV.

4. T-shirts

You are going to get SOOOOO many t-shirts in college. They're fun and feel free to bring a few, but don't bring any more than 10 or so. They'll just sit around while you wear the same ones over and over, or you just wear new ones. Trust me on this.

5. Special kitchen equipment

You know what you use. But if it's something you don't use every. single. day. You don't need to bring it. OR you could bring things, but be prepared to possibly take them home. There's also the option of keeping it all at home, and waiting until you see your parents next to bring you what you realize you would really use.

There are a lot of fun gadgets you feel that you need for every day use, but guess what, you don't need all of it. I've brought way to much stuff, and I know I will again, but be as careful as possible about not wasting precious dorm space.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
