5 Things I Wish I Knew When Registering For Classes For The First Time

So, you've graduated high school and are now waiting to register for your first semester of college classes. Yay, you! As you wait for your fated date to draw near, here are a couple things to keep in mind when you register for classes.

1. Start times

You may be thinking that you can handle the early morning start times since you've been pretty much going to school early in the morning anyway. However, many incoming college freshmen quickly learn that waking up for 8 am's is a lot harder than it seems. I learned that the heard way during my first semester of college. If you are an early riser and are usually out the door by 7 am, by all means, go for it. But, if you're like me and find waking up in the morning an almost impossible task, stick with the later start times.

2. Prerequisite requirements

In college, there are a lot of classes that require you to fulfill some sort of requirement before you can enroll in the class. This could mean you need to take an introductory math course or English course before you can move on to more advanced courses. However, many students fulfill these requirements from AP courses, or because of their test scores. It's important that you know which requirements you meet or doesn't meet so you don't end up taking a class you don't need, or take a class you're not eligible for.

3. Meal Breaks

What a lot of first-time freshmen end up doing is cramming all of their classes close together in time, but end up feeling like their dying by 11 am because they haven't eaten anything all day. Everyone needs to eat, so try to plan some time for you to at least grab a quick bite in between classes. Your body will thank you for it later.

4. Location Distance

If you're like me, you probably have no idea where any of the buildings are. That's okay. All colleges and universities should have campus maps on their websites which should give you a general idea of how far away certain classes are from your dorm, apartment, other classes, etc. I'm not saying base your class choices on location, but have a general idea of how much walking you'll be doing on a daily basis.

5. Class sizes

Many classes are taught in huge lecture halls with upwards of 500 students. Because of this, a professor will not know who you are unless you really make an effort to get to know your professor by going to their office hours or taking to them after class. Know how big or small your classes will be and whether or not it will be a major impactor on your performance in the class.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
