It is one of those things that happens to almost everyone. You wake up one morning, look in the mirror and do not like what you see. It does not matter what size, shape or weight you are; there are days when self-confidence is low. When this happens it is so easy to get upset or act irrationally. Here are five things that might make it a little better.
1. Put on an outfit that makes you feel good
We all have that shirt or pair of jeans that you just love to wear. Maybe it makes your butt look fantastic or maybe it is extremely soft. Whatever it is, wearing an outfit you feel good in is essential to making your day a little better.
2. Get busy
Sitting at home all day will just make you feel worse. If you spend the whole day alone, criticizing yourself will do nothing to boost your self-esteem. Instead get a group of friends together and go do something fun. You could go see a movie, go for a hike or grab a coffee somewhere. Doing a fun activity with people who care about you takes your mind off negative thoughts and focuses them on what you are doing.
3. Take a minute to be grateful for what your body does
Even if you do not feel great about the way your stomach or arms look, you can still appreciate everything they do. Thanks to your body you can walk around, talk to people and your body generally keeps you alive. Instead of focusing on everything that's "wrong" with your body, think about all of the incredible things it can do.
4. Acknowledge the way you are feeling
The way you are feeling about your body is real and that is ok. It is important to be aware of the way you are feeling and accept that it is a part of your psyche. Do not forget to think about all the things you love about yourself, but it is ok to acknowledge all of your thoughts.
5. Remember that this too shall pass
We all have days where we do not feel out best. The way we feel about the image in the mirror will change and fluctuate often. It is important to appreciate our bodies, no matter how we feel about the way they look. They keep us alive and moving.
While it does suck to feel bad about the way you look, remember that as cheesy as it is; you are beautiful both inside and out.
