High school is supposed to be the four years of your life to prepare you for the next four (and more) years of your life in college. However, high school does not teach you anything about what you need to learn in college and does not prepare you at all. Here are some of the things high school never taught you about college.
1. How to Study
I have never been a good study person. In high school, you are never taught how to properly study. When you get to college, you are expected to know how to study correctly.
2. How to write papers
You never learn how to write a research paper in high school. College professors expect you to write a paper, do research, and properly cite it. I never did a research paper in high school and I was completely lost while writing research papers. If anything can sum up how I felt writing a research paper, this would be it:
3. How to create a cover letter and resume
High school does not teach you anything about cover letters and resumes. In my Com 103 class, 99 percent of the class did not have a resume and did not know what a cover letter was. Luckily, my professors brought in the Communications honor society to help us with our resumes.
4. How to make your own decisions
For your whole life, you are told what to do by your parents and teachers. Once you get to college, you are forced to fend for yourself.
5. How to manage your life
High school does not teach how to manage your life and how to manage your time. I feel like I have so much to do with so little time.
This list can go on forever, but these were the top five things I thought were best.
