Sometimes life isn't so nice. Sometimes life curses family members. From what I've learned in my life is that anything can happen in a second. From broken bones to broken hearts, to an ill family member, or to even finding five dollars in your pocket.

Anything can happen. These things aren't always the easiest, and when it feels like everything is going to hell, here are 5 things to try to remember when it feels like everything is going wrong.

1. You are alive

When it feels like your world is crashing down, slow your breath down and remember you are alive and here for a reason. I don't even know my purpose, but I know I serve one, and I know I'm meant to do something. As are you. You are here for a reason. I don't mean this religiously either. I mean this as in, I believe we all have a purpose and we are alive for a reason. We are alive, and somebody needs us. We are alive and breathing for a reason, and we can do this, even when it seems hardest.

2. Darkness can only last for so long

In the calm before the storm, and even during the storm, the best thing you can do is just be. It's going to happen and life is real. The best we can do is just be. Stand in the storm, because even though it may feel like things are going wrong for a while, the bad can only last for so long. Things are bound to turn around, even in small blessings.

3. You love your family

Family is everything, and no matter how bad things get, those bad things will NEVER be able to take away the love you share with your family. Love is everything. We are not alone, and we have love with our family. Whether it be immediate family love, or love that goes that distance, love is still there. Love will always be there with your family.

4. Time heals everything

Things may seem bad now, and to be honest they probably are. Feeling like you feel nothing is the worst, but time will heal it all. Time is funny like that how it throws you into turmoil but then licks your wounds and heals you after. When your heart hurts, it feels like it will never leave. However, each day it's going to get easier. I'm not saying you'll never feel that pain again, but time will make the sad less sad.

5. We can try to make it better

Even when it feels like there is nothing you can do. There is always something you can at least try to do. Give something every day, give to those less fortunate than you. Yeah, your life sucks right now, and a lot of peoples do. Sometimes giving something to another person less fortunate that you can help, even if it doesn't directly relate to what you're going through, you can still give something to make life better. Make food for someone, donate a little money, stand up for the weak, and say thank you. We can try to lighten up this world a little bit, even when our lives feel so dark.

Those are 5 things to remember when it feels like everything is going wrong. Be thankful for each day, because you never know when everything is about the change.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
