Tis the season of giving and recieving. The season of joy and happiness.
But with all of that happiness; not everyone is as blessed as some people are.
1. Not everyone has family or friends to be with this season.
As much as I love spending time with my husband and our families that is not the reality for many people. A lot of people's family is away serving our country, has passed away, or has problems that run deep; be extra loving.
2. Not everyone has unlimited money.
The season is tough to get through with the parties, gifts, celebrations and everything else. Somehow it's still expected for people to have the money to afford it all. It's okay if you can't afford the best present for someone. It's okay if all you can do is a card with a hand written note in it. It's the heart behind the gesture.
3. Not everyone is jolly and happy.
I suffer from depression and I know around the holidays it can be rough. It can be especially rough for people that are struggling with the loss of someone they love. It can be hard for those suffering in silence. Don't just assume because this is your happiest time of the year that everyone is the happiest too.
4. Not everyone participates in Christmas.
I know that this may be a surprise but a lot of other holidays happen around this time of year. Whether you say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" both are in the season of giving. No one is asking you to not put up a tree. Be mindful.
5. Not everyone has food or a home this season.
I strive to always give extra canned goods or blankets in our church drive during this season. But the reality is not everyone has the food or a warm place to be during the holiday season.
As this season is coming and coming fast, please remember to be friendly. Be loving. Be present for people.
