Late October and early November tend to be the months when the semester grind starts to get to you. It's not quite close enough to Thanksgiving Break for that extra motivation to kick in, and midterms just seem to be piling up at this point. But, even when things get hard, it's so important to remember that this is all temporary. This is all just the hard stuff you have to get through to get where you want to be. Eventually, it's all going to be worth it. But, in the mean time, think about some of these quotes. They might offer some motivation, but at the very least, they will serve as a reminder to you that you're pretty amazing.

1. "Be You. The World Will Adjust."- Unknown

Just like the quote says, be you. Don't waste your life trying to please other people. It's not only hard, it's almost downright impossible. You'll waste so much valuable energy and you won't have the time to do what truly makes you happy. That's the most important thing anyways. We're all only on this planet for a limited time, don't waste it doing things that don't make you happy. And the best part is, when you start doing what makes you happy, you'll attract other people who enjoy you as you are and share your passions.

2. "You've Got To Take Life And Ride The Wheels Off Of It."- Brad Simms

Sometimes we all get tired down with our homework and extra projects, but in reality, are you ever going to remember those? Probably not. So, take a night off, go apple picking with your friends. Try that new running route, and make yourself happy. In all reality, college is helping us get where we need to go whether we have a 4.0 GPA or a 2.5 GPA. So while yes, that 4.0 is something to strive for, don't waste 4+ years of your life being miserable to get it.

3. "Set A Goal That Makes You Want To Jump Out Of Bed In The Morning."- Unknown

There are times in everyone's life where they lose track of what is truly important or what they're working for. If you find that maybe you've forgotten, sit down for a few minutes and think about it. Write down what you're working towards and put it on a sticky note on the ceiling above your bed. That way you have a reminder every time you wake up in the morning what you're working towards. Most people quit when they're 95% of the way to their goal because it gets hard. Don't quit, just push on and make it happen. You've got this, just remember why you started.

4. "Every Day May Not be Good, But There's Good In Every Day"- Unknown

Especially when the semester starts to weigh on you, it's so easy to slide into the pattern of thinking wow this sucks, or I hate today. But, you have to change your thinking. So, maybe this does suck, but you had a really great lunch today. Or maybe, you totally killed that workout this morning! Even just, wow, I finished the reading 10 minutes early! Those small wins can be the highlight of your day. Try to remember them when you're feeling down and struggling to get through a tough class or assignment.

5. "Kindness Is Free, Sprinkle That Stuff Everywhere." -Unknown

Remember to be kind to everyone you meet. Even when you're stressed, make sure to catch yourself if you're annoyed and don't reflect that in your interactions with other people. Give out random compliments. Not meaningless ones, but when you notice someone put a lot of work into something, tell them you can see how hard they worked. If someone looks extra good today, let them know. You'll feel good for making them feel good. Essentially you both get a reward for taking three seconds to tell someone how awesome they are. Who knows, that might even be the highlight of their day if they're struggling with a hard week.

Just remember that you are your most important priority. When the semester gets hard, you have to remember that. Remember your goals and why you started. Don't let yourself quit when you're already 95% of the way there. And, even if Thanksgiving break seems really far away, it's really only 24 days away. And, after Thanksgiving, it's less than a month until Christmas Break!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
