For those of us in food service we know the joys and pains of it all. Unfortunately, it seems the bad parts outweigh the good. There is a huge list of things that I hate about working in food service, but I have narrowed it down here to the top 5 !

1. The Mess

I don't know why, but everyone who eats in restaurants seems to think we are their personal slaves. Customers make the most obnoxious messes and just leave them there for us to clean. I get that part of our job is to make the seating are nice for the next guest, but COME ON. If you drop something on the floor it takes two seconds to pick it back up. Would you do that at your house?!

2. No Break

In most restaurants there is a 99% chance that you won't be getting a break to eat a bit of food. If you do it's short, like, 10-15 minutes short. Most times that I have worked in food industry our "breaks" consisted of us shoving food down our throats and keeping it moving. It's just too fast paced and you could miss out on some nice tips.

3. Complicated Orders and 100,000 Questions

Now this one isn't too bad, but it can be a bit frustrating at times when you're trying to keep the line moving and someone wants to order a Latte with 80 different things and a quarter pump of the normal serving. Not to mention, you make their order just how they asked and they still tell you that it doesn't taste right. No wonder it doesn't, Susan, you have the whole menu in your cup! Some things just seem like common sense especially when the prices and sizes are right in front of you. Working food makes this seem like a lost cause.

4. Drama, Drama, Drama

Just when you thought highs school was drama city, but boy were you so wrong. Working in food makes you feel like you're on a reality show sometimes. Everyone is having sex with one another, talking about so-and-so behind their back, trying to get someone in trouble. It never ends! The GIF is the perfect way to describe food service.

5. Customer Is Always Right

Possibly the worst part of it all. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. Even when you know the customer is not right and even the customer probably knows, they get what they want. Biting the bullet and remaking their order is just the normal thing. A lot of customers do this just to get something for free. You just have to do the fake smile and nod to make them happy even if it makes you crazy inside.

Working in food has taught me a lot about working with people and making the most out of situations. Even thought the customers get on your last nerve they are giving you that paycheck and the nicer you are, the nicer your tips are. If you can bear it, hang in there and make that money !

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
