5 Things That God Will Steal From You

I am extremely grateful that God is a huge thief.

5 Things That God Will Steal From You
The Cripplegate

When you decide to try out the whole, "I love God" thingamajig that everybody has been raving about, nobody dares warn you that God is actually a huge thief. Yeah, I said it and mean it. He really loves to play some serious Robin Hood tricks in your life as soon as you even get to know His name. Not only that, but the more you understand who God is, He decides to go on ahead and steal many more things from you. Since nobody who brought me closer to Him told me anything about what exactly was going to be stolen from me, I'm choosing to take it upon myself and tell absolutely anybody willing to listen.

1. Hatred

Yeah, might as well forget your lifelong dream of hating your biological father who walked out on you and your sister; God refuses to let you hold on to both hatred and Him. You make the choice, slowly but easily. By talking to Him, you will want to throw off all the dead weight that is your hatred towards humanity. God will show you the beauty that is true love and compassion, and believe it or not if you love God, you simply toss the ability to loathe.

2. Impatience

You wouldn't believe just how quickly the Big Guy Upstairs will swipe this trait from you, either. When you least expect it, you'll be driving behind somebody going 15 below the speed limit with ease. Not a word will be shouted. You'll just learn to stop leaving the house at the very last second. God replaces your impatience with complete understanding of how much humans fail one another. It's inevitable.

3. Fear

That's right. Say goodbye to being afraid for days after watching Conjuring 2, because it just won't work that way anymore. Once you attain the Holy Spirit, no darkness can reach you. You are invincible with Him on your side. Even normal day-to-day anxiety of the future, such as starting a new job will never last long when you take proper steps of avoidance. You tell God what you're current fear is, and He will wipe it away entirely. He tells you the only valid form of fear is becoming a God-fearing person. He has your back even when you might slip on having His.

4. Loneliness

Even when you are alone, you will no longer feel loneliness. Now you understand that you will never be alone, as long as you stride alongside Jesus. You begin to rely less on your friends and family, which might be a huge change if you're the type to always feel the need to be surrounded by loved ones. Even in your "alone time," He is there, ready to listen to each and every detail of your problems.

5. Death

As soon as you let Him take over your heart, He takes your imminent end of life from your hands. There is suddenly afterlife promised to you. Death of your loved ones are now no longer the final goodbyes, but a simplistic, "see you later". You are granted everlasting life full of promised true bliss by coming to Christ. How thankful I am that God is a thief.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
