To My Best Friend, After My First Month In College
Wiki

To my person,

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a month since we said goodbye and parted ways for what will be the best four years of our lives. You have been with me during the most amazing and difficult times, and I am so lucky to have you. College has been incredible so far, but without you I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. So here are the 5 things I haven’t had the chance to say during the past month we’ve been apart.

1. My dorm is the size of a shoebox, but you are always welcome whenever.

In fact, you don’t even have to tell me that you’re coming (surprise visits are way more fun). I can’t wait for the day I get to take you to my favorite restaurants, introduce you to all of my college friends, and go out together. Everything I talk about during our calls between classes will make a lot more sense once you experience it--and you’ll see why I brag about my school so much.

2. I’m constantly reminded of you and our inside jokes.

Whether I’m walking to my 11 am or overhearing a conversation in the dining hall, there’s always something at least once a day that makes me think of our funny moments. Even though you’re only a call or text away, nothing compares to being with you in person and laughing for hours.

3. Getting mail from you is the most exciting thing.

When I get a notification about a package from you, I am overjoyed. Regardless if it is a letter or a box of cupcakes with an “I miss you” card attached, it means so much just because it comes from you.

4. You still know exactly what to say to cheer me up.

There is really no one else that shares a bond like we do. You have seen me stressed during SAT/ACT season and big tests in high school. You were there when I got into my dream school, tried out for teams, and ran for positions in clubs. And even though we are miles away, you still are there to pick up the phone, make me smile, and remember how much I miss you.

5.You are the best friend I could ever ask for.

The happiest, friendliest, prettiest, and most loyal friend I’ve ever had. I know I can always count on you for anything and everything. Although we are in different states and hours away, you will still be my go-to and someone I know I can truly trust.

I hope you are loving college and everything it has to offer as much as I am. Freshman year is off to the best start possible, but knowing I get to see you in a few months is what makes it even better. So here’s to you, the new chapter of our lives, and the memories we will continue to make. I’m so thankful for you.

Love,

Your forever friend

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
