5 Things I Did Instead Of Studying For Finals

and why...I totally needed to reorganize my desk again in order to focus on studying.

Finals week is a familiar beast for all students. It's the week where you cram three months worth of information into your head and pray your performance on the test reflects the effort. Studying is essential to success and ideally broken up into pieces.

That's what I tell myself when I get off task with the most random thing. Enjoy this list of things I did that instead of studying for finals that were A). more enjoyable B). easier and/or C). more "important" than studying. Let me know in the Facebook comments or share if you can relate with any of these points!

1. I reorganized my room.

The task: I didn't just clean... I reorganized my entire desk and closet.

Duration: This took a good hour.

Category: More Important.

Why: A decluttered space is a decluttered mind, right? So obviously this was more important than going over Spain's GDP breakdown in relation to the rest of the EU...

2. I played Cards Against Humanity.

The task: Can I even call this a task in good conscience? Um... I needed to bolster my creativity and this game about linguistics and quick, critical thinking aided my essay writing skills.

Duration: Too long.

Category: More enjoyable.

Why: It's literally a game.

3. Climbed a mountain.

The task: Walking uphill.

Category: Easier.

Why: Climbing a literal mountain was easier than memorizing the artist/period/title/year of thirty paintings... We did run through flashcards on the ride there so bonus points for trying.

4. I went to the gym twice in one day.

The task: Arm day! Then cardio... then legs... then hula-hooping (aka acting like a child and telling myself it's a core workout) then HIIT...

Category: All three!

Why: I'm not procrastinating... I'm working on my fitness while having fun and pushing myself.... yup all three. That's obviously a higher priority than finishing my 20-page research paper on sacred music theory and historical shifts.

5. Spent extra time formatting this article.

The task: The literal working title of this article is "Procrastination listicle" and I've been working on it between subjects.

Category: More important.

Why: Gotta show the readers they're not alone in this mess of procrastination.

Happy studying!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
