It's the middle of August, so, you know what that means? Regardless of your individual school, it's starting back up soon, and with it comes both the good and the bad.
Yea: Freedom
Since there's no one to worry about your whereabouts in case you want to go to a party, an event, or even just to get snacks, you can, for the most part, do what you want, and usually without a car!
Nay: Essays
I've said it before and will say it again, love of writing does not equal love of essays. They are incredibly time-consuming, not to mention all around unpleasant to write.
Yea: People
You get to see the friends and professors you missed all summer, especially if you're out of state. Plus, there are some new, interesting people to meet through the transfers, international students, and professors you haven't had yet.
Nay: Also People
There are of course also the people you don't like. Plus, people can be morons. Like the ones who print 50 pages from the printer, not only is it bad for the environment, but they could be using up all the paper for the essay you have due.
Yea: Clubs and Events
If you're like me, and have been unsuccessful in getting a summer job, and not rich enough to travel Europe, chances are, you've been bored out of your mind. Luckily at school, there's usually something going on.
Nay: Early Class Times
Maybe it's because you're a freshman. Maybe you need to get that class out of the way. Either way, you have to be awake during the wee hours for a class you'll probably fall asleep in anyway. Or, alternatively, you're stuck with a night class when you want to do other things.
Yea: Free Food
It's a surefire way to spice up a boring lecture or to get people to an event. At least once a week, there is something going on that involves food you don't have to make and/or buy.
Nay: Dining Hall Food
If you don't have an income and/or car, this is what you'll be eating a lot of, and it's not the best quality. It may be a step up from high school cafeteria food or even your own cooking, but still not pleasant to eat, and if not that, it gets old fast.
Yea: Renewed Motivation
Now that school's starting up again, you have actual things to do, and the newness of it all will deliver the motivation you lost during finals week. Only... this is only temporary. It'll return in bits and pieces.
Nay: Stress
With college comes stress, whether it be professors not caring about the rest of your schedule, or even overbooking yourself. You'll wish for hassle-free weekends, and even the holidays, whether there's drama at home or not.
There are always the good and the bad things when returning to college, but one thing is certain: It's inevitable if you want that diploma.
