As summer 2016 begins to wind down, I've been thinking about all the necessities of the season. Summer is my favorite time of the year, mostly because it allows one to wear running shorts every day. But I also love feeling the constant sunshine, rolling down your car windows, jumping into a cold pool and a host of other summer activities. But to survive the blaring heat and long days of summer, there are a few things I always need to have with me.

1. Hair tie

I'm not sure why, but this seems to be the most vital of all the items on the list. When the temperature hits anywhere above 90, I just need to have my hair up. It's also handy to have around for spontaneous trips to the pool or car rides with the wind in your face.

2. Water bottle

I will admit that I'm a bit obsessed with my water bottle all year long, but summer is the time when I use it the most. Whenever I leave the house, I need to have a full icy bottle of water. Not to mention summer is also the time I always get a new Nalgene.

3. Sunglasses

Perfect for driving, laying by the pool or any summer activity. This is probably the most basic staple of summer.

4. Sandals

Whether you live in your Birks or wear nothing but Rainbows, summer is the perfect excuse to break out those sandals and release your feet from their sock prisons.

5. Running shorts

Although I wear running shorts pretty much 365 days of the year, they are especially essential in the summer. They are perfect to throw on after working out, swimming or anything really. Running shorts are really the best thing since sliced bread.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
