5 Things All Coffee Addicts Know Are True

As the end of the semester approaches, my coffee intake is increasing. At this point in every semester, coffee has pretty much ingrained itself into my food pyramid as a main food group and to be honest I don’t hate it.

Everything about coffee comforts me—the memories of waking up to the smell of coffee on a Saturday morning as a kid to my favorite mug that I fight with my brother’s over. It’s been a part of my life since the start of my life; that I’m sure of. My parents have started every day with at least two cups of coffee for as long as I can remember. It was only a matter of time before I was hooked.

Coffee has become a huge part of my daily life, and I won’t deny that I’ve become pretty dependent on it. Some might even say I'm a bit "addicted" to it (they're not wrong.) So here’s five things a coffee addict like myself knows to be true.

1. The only way you tolerate mornings is by copious amounts of coffee.

My friends and family all know that coffee must come first before they can ask me a remotely challenging question. After a few minutes (more like 30) i'm good to go. And any morning that doesn't start with coffee will undoubtedly be a bad one. Coffee helps pull me from my "troll phase" so that I can start my day.

2. Coffee make you a nicer person.

It's true. Coffee gives you the energy to summon patience for your daily aggravations and It keeps you alert and functioning like an actual human being. Anytime I'm particularly snarky early on in the day, I'm told to pour a cup and to shut up. I'd consider an IV drip of espresso if it wouldn't stop my heart.

3. You owe a lot of your triumphs to that boost you get multiple times daily.

A lot of my best efforts and works are done with equal parts pressing procrastination and the help of several cups of black coffee. It gives me the energy from 12 hours of sleep with only actually six hours of sleep. Even the smell of coffee is like a comforting sign that help is on the way. Four cups later and I'm like a wind up toy, not stopping until I'm entirely done.

4. The amount of coffee you consume concerns others.

A lot of people can never understand how I can drink more than 3 cups a day and still be able to sleep at night and that's on a regular Tuesday. When finals come around? Forget it. You stop counting how many cups you've had and start replacing your water intake with more coffee. It genuinely fascinates you when people can have efficient days on only one cup of joe.

5. You love the smell and taste of coffee.

Black, mocha swirl, iced or hot, you want the flavor of coffee to push through. Snacks like coffee ice cream or chocolate covered coffee beans are your favorite. You not only look forward to the energy from coffee, but to starting the day with one of the best tasting parts of your food pyramid. That's why we drink so many cups, duh.

No matter which way you take it, you appreciate coffee in every way possible, but especially for its mystical strength. So thanks coffee, for making me a better human being by starting off my day right.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
