Even though I just barely nailed down my jobs for the summer and will finally start making some money, I've already got the summer job blues. Making money is great, and it'll help pay for some of the things I want to get before going back to school, but there's always going to be another side. So here are 5 summer job blues.
1. Learning the business's dynamic
Learning a new system and learning the way things work around the business you're working for can be hard. If you're only getting a limited amount of hours too, it's going to be harder to learn the ropes for yourself.
2. Learning a new POS system
Not everyone is going to have this issue, but in every job I've had, I have had to learn a POS system. Every system is different, and everyone has different policies and ways for people to pay. I spent 2 hours learning a new one the other day.
3. Scheduling your days
Unless you have a really relaxed job, you're not going to have your free days to yourself anymore. This is particularly hard for me because I have a morning workout routine that I love doing, but I think I'm going to have to change it due to my hours, but here's hoping I can just start later.
4. Saving the paycheck
Everyone says "I'm going to save the money I spend" but that's not happening. I say that every time, but as soon as I get that first paycheck, I blow it all on the things I definitely don't need. Hopefully this time around, I'll be saving though for my summer goals.
5. Losing a job in the summer
Unless you're really tight with your job and have a good experience, leaving and expecting to have the job back when you return next summer or for winter break is going to be tricky. Not all employers will take you back, and until we are all grown up and have real full serious jobs, we are stuck in this endless summer routine of applying for jobs each time we come home for summer.
Even though these summer job blues are here, there is still an upside! You're making money, you can splurge if you want to, and it's better than laying around all day! So take advantage of the summer time job. Build up your resume, get some experience and discipline, and learn what growing up is all about!
