You know the drill — a long period of time passes by and your words and ideas still haven't cooperated with you. As time goes further on, these ideas fade away quicker and quicker. But, writing is the love of your life and not giving it any attention would be the cruelest form of abandonment imaginable.

With a short attention span, and many other things you could be doing, you cycle through ideas until you come to a conclusion:

You tell yourself, "It is what it is".

And so the events begin...

1. Sitting in front of your notebook or computer with a blank mind

You had this wicked plot for a twenty-page story all thought up on your drive home from work. As soon as you approach your preferred writing format all of those ideas completely vanish. You find yourself staring into a striped, paper abyss for countless minutes.

2. The pressure of not writing for a long period of time

Some writers have a planned, daily, writing time. While others only write when they are entirely inspired. When either of the two fails and inspiration is nowhere to be found, you tend to guilt trip yourself for not producing content for so long.

3. Being envious of fellow writers who aren't currently battling with writer's block

Your peers seem to have it all planned out and have practically an entire anthology of their own work. But little do you remember that each of them understands your situation all too well.

4. Phone/electronic distractions

Following two complete hours of Youtube at midnight, you find yourself debating on a group chat about your disliking of spray cheese. Is a group chat discussion considered to be quality writing? After all, it does require thought.

5. Forced writing

It has to happen. These pages have collected more dust than they have ink. It's time to formulate the most grandiose cliches and loopholes the world has ever experienced.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
