It's the start of a new school year, and with the beginning of the new school year comes the desire to do better than you did the previous semester. As college students we are striving to put our best foot forward, conquer all our classes, and manage to do everything else we are supposed to do. If you are looking for ways to help stay organized and have a strong semester keep reading for some ideas...

1. Learn To Utilize A Planner.

Planners are a wonderful tool, but they can also be overwhelming. Thankfully, nowadays, you can find planners set up every way imaginable. Take some time to find one you love, and actually use it! Carry it with you wherever you go, and write deadlines and appointments down in it as soon as you can. That way you can easily plan your day, week, and even month.

2. Try Using The 5-Minute Rule.

If you are a master procrastinator (and what college student isn't), then it is time to give the 5-minute a try. What is it? If you are faced with a task, like an essay, that you really don't want to do, but HAVE to do, start doing it for five minutes. When those five minutes are up you will most likely continue to keep going. The hardest past is just getting started!

3. Get Creative With Your Studies.

When you hear the word 'study' chances are you're thinking, re-reading the book/notes, maybe completing a study, or making flashcards. The thought of that can make you just not want to study even more. Get creative with it. Use colored pens, post-it notes, and come up with creative ways to make the information stick. This may mean spending more time on your notes, but hopefully you'll remember the information!

4. Establish Study Groups Early On.

Get your friends together and go to the library to collaboratively study. Don't wait for the first test or mid-term to come along. Instead, start studying or doing homework together so you consistently keep up with the class. It's harder to catch up once you fall behind. By studying in a group you can help each other understand the material when questions are raised.

5. Set Boundaries For Yourself.

Don't let things get in the way of you accomplishing your goals. If you need to get a good nights rest before a big test, then spend the night in. It's okay to put your phone away and go to bed early. There is no harm in looking out for yourself.

The start of a semester can be hard. It only takes one day to get behind, and the rest of the semester to catch up. Start off strong and keep going with these tips and tricks!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
