5 Songs That Mean The World To Me
Tim Tripp Design

Sometimes it seems like things will never get better; I know exactly how that feels. These past few weeks haven't been nearly the worst I've ever had in my life, but they were definitely a very stressful and upsetting few weeks nonetheless. One thing that has always made me feel better when times were tough is music. Some song lyrics can speak volumes when going through a tough time.

That being said, music is literally there for me though every situation I have ever been in. I am one of those people that truly believe "if there wasn't music, I'd go insane." It's there for you during the good times and the bad. I play guitar, piano, and I sing, and let me tell you personally, there is nothing quite like the rush you can get from listening to or playing a good song. I haven't found an outlet quite like music. Here are a few songs that have helped me get through rough times, beautiful times, and all the times in between.

"Someone's Watching Over Me" by Hilary Duff

"So I won't give up, no I won't break down / Sooner than it seems life turns around / And I will be strong even if it all goes wrong / When I'm standing in the dark I'll still believe / Someone's watching over me"

This song (which I actually heard today, and it still never fails to make me cry) has helped me cope with losing a loved one better than anything else. It's actually from the movie "Raise Your Voice" (which is also a childhood favorite of mine), and is what Hilary's character sings in honor of her brother's memory. I have lost many very important people in my life, and I know none of them would want me to give up just because I am hurting.

"Memories That Fade Like Photographs" by All Time Low

"There's a look in your eye / And it's screaming 'goodbye' / I'd hate to watch you cry"

This is a seriously old All Time Low song. Anyone that knows me knows my insane obsession with All Time Low. It will never end.

There was a point in my life, lets just say I was 13 years old and I just knew I had met the boy of my dreams. Love of my life. (Insert eye roll here.) Long story short, that was the most toxic relationship I've been in to this day, and I was left really, really messed up from it. Anyway, I was basically made to think that I was worthless, and I believed it. I was nothing and without him I was even less than that. I wanted to die. So, I tried.

I've always blasted music in my room. One night, in the middle of my attempt, this song came on. I didn't think much of it, All Time Low always played on my iPod. I was emotional, but I was numb. And then, for some reason, for just a split second, I actually snapped out of my episode and heard what Alex Gaskarth was singing, "there's a look in your eye, and it's screaming 'goodbye'. I'd hate to watch you cry"... Long story short, this song kept me from killing myself that night. Thank you, All Time Low. I love you.

Literally every single song made by All Time Low means a lot to me, in so many different ways. I'd like to take this moment to thank Alex, Zack, Jack, and Ryan for all that they do and I am so blessed to have their music in my life. Seriously, I love you. Fangirling over.

"Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley

"Take my hand / Take my whole life too / For I can't help / Falling in love with you"

This is a classic, obviously. I'm happy that it's almost gotten its "second wind" lately, with all of the new covers coming out and it becoming so popular again.

I've always told my boyfriend that I want to dance to that song at my wedding. It's just so beautiful. It's "our song," you could say. Then one night, when I was having a bad day, he sang it to me. He hardly ever sings to me. But he looked at me, and he started singing it. He sang the whole song through, and then he sang it again, and I sang it with him. It was just us in the dark singing this song to one another and I was so genuinely happy and in love and it was such a beautiful moment in time that I cried. I seriously bawled my eyes out. It was one of the best moments of my life and one song I will always associate with my boyfriend's beautiful soul.

"Undone" by Haley Reinhart

"I'm sorry, I'm really a mess right now / I'm trying my best to get it together somehow"

So, this song actually got me through a lot of things. When I lost my virginity to someone who didn't even matter (sorry, Mom), I listened to this. When a really good guy (or so I thought) broke up with me, I listened to this. When me and the "love of my life" I mentioned in the All Time Low section called it quits (like each of the 984 times that happened), I turned to this song. Basically anytime "love" or relationship issues made their appearance, I turned to this song. I belted it out at the top of my lungs, I played it on the piano, I sang it while I played my guitar. The best part of it all, completely coincidentally, Haley herself followed me on Twitter. That was cool, to say the least. Honestly, she's just extremely talented and I adore her music. This song in particular, however, speaks to me on many levels, and I love it with all my heart.

"Picture" by Kid Rock ft. Sheryl Crow

"I put your picture away / Sat down and cried today"

This one actually doesn't have a meaning to me that is relevant to the actual meaning of the song. This song means a lot to me because me and my mom, whom I love with all my heart, used to sing it together all the time. This song will forever remind me of her and our relationship. I love her to death and will cherish all of our memories together until the day I die.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter what is going on in your life or what memory you are trying to hold on to, there is always a song out there for you. Never give up on music. It can help you through a lot more than you know.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
