I've been thinking a great deal about migraines lately. This may be because I suffer from them, or that in Michigan the barometric pressure drastically changes on a day to day basis that my head feels like it's going to explode. That's not the point here though. I was talking to one of my best friends (yes, I have more than 1). She called me (or texted me... I think she called me) and asked me when I thought would be a good time to call an ambulance. My immediate response was to giggle, so I asked her if she was bleeding or dying of some wound that involved gushing of blood. She started listing off these symptoms of what she thought was wrong with her... she was having a migraine. She had NO IDEA that's what was happening to her, and to me, that can be scary. So here are some of the signs/symptoms that you're getting a migraine:
1. Nausea
Nausea is probably one of the BIGGEST tells - it can lead to vomiting if you ignore the fact that you are developing a migraine. Things to avoid for this: chocolate, caffeine (per your own body's needs), and heavy carbs.
2. Blurred/Blurry Vision
Blurry vision is an issue with people with migraines because ... well, you can't see. Please be aware of this as to not endanger yourself or others (this includes not driving).
3. Sensitivity To Light
It can be as simple as turning the light on in your bedroom that feels like the sun is piercing your retinas. Soft lights such as Salt Lamps, or candles work well.
4. Irritability
Not only do you feel like crap, but because it feels like your head is going to literally explode, due to the incessant pounding on either side of your head, you're not exactly the friendliest.
5. Lack Of Motivation
You don't want to move. You don't want to adult or execute normal day to day activities. The pounding and the light-headedness that you feel the second you try to stand up can at times be unbearable.
I understand you. I feel for you. I suffer from migraines more often than not. YOU CAN DO THIS (I only say this because if I can, you most definitely can). You have to do what's right for yourself and your body, but be aware that you are or may be having a migraine!
