These days, nearly all college students have a summer job, and most jobs are extremely interesting, to say the least. We’re all just gathering crazy stories to share with each other come the next school year, right?
1. ¢a$h Mon€¥
What other reason does anyone get a summer job? We’re all mostly broke and we gotta pay for next semester somehow. It’s a great feeling every few weeks watching your hard work turn into an increase in your bank account. The only downside is seeing the taxes that were taken out already.
2. Work Friends
You guys connect on a spiritual level. All it takes is one glance across a busy counter and you know exactly what the other is thinking. The inside jokes and ridiculous Snapchats are just enough to get you through a nightmare shift.
Your work friends are always surprising you with snacks for the group or a hidden talent. Even though you may not talk to them during the school year, your work friends are some of your best friends during the summer.
3. The Craziest Stories
No matter how hard you try to plan and prepare, there’s always that one customer or camper who throws everything into chaos, leaving you with an epic story to tell once the dust settles.
Whether it’s a boy’s cabin who managed to sink every single canoe on the campground or a woman who tried to bring her seven dogs into the dry cleaners along with 4 bags of laundry, there’s always something exciting to share with your friends at the end of the week.
4. At Least it Gets You Out of Bed in the Morning
Let’s face it guys. If you didn’t have a job, you would probably stay in bed until 2pm, get up and eat something weird like leftover mac & cheese and bell peppers, maybe go to the gym, and then watch Netflix until your parents got home and made you clean the house.
To avoid that ethereal passing of the days, we have wonderful menial jobs for unskilled laborers. Hey, at least it gets you out of the house.
5. Anything to Build that Resume
Like it or not, we all have to get a Real Adult Job after college, and boy would it help if we knew what we were doing. Having a summer job gives you experience in all sorts of workplaces, teaches you how to interview, and the all important skill of customer service, i.e. putting up with customer’s crap with a pleasant smile on your face.
Having a steady summer job looks really good on a resume, and that’s what we’re all about at this point. Planning for the future under the guise of saving for a trip to Florida over spring break, who would have thought it could be so interesting?
