Many people look down on theater kids, or should I say "theater geeks"... little do they know theater is one of the most advanced major a college can offer. If you want to be involved in productions whether that be as a designer or performer, you need to have a whole array of different talents ranging from singing and acting all the way to knowing how to do a full out breakdance in a pair of 4-inch heels. So here are the 5 reasons why I believe theater geeks are the best geeks in the game

1. The studying does not stop past college

Once typical majors get out of college the studying stops and the work begins. But in the theater department, you have not done half of the studying you need to complete the job. Reseach is key to any play or musical. Reseach is what sets the scene and makes the characters.

2. Multi-talented

So most jobs you need to know skills about your profession and only your profession. In theater, you need to know everything from dancing to acting, and then you get into math when designing the set. History when figuring out what costumes to put the characters in. And even psychology to figure out the characters and the way they confront problems.

3. Actors do far more than just act

Actors are essential to any show, they need to know all different personalities. Every show an actor is in they are always learning something new, and not just a new dance or a new song. They could learn little things like how to do a flip or simply how the mind works on all different types of people.

4. Designers do far more than just designing

The design process begins with reading. Designers need to be excellent readers and interpreters. They need to understand the characters in a way that they can dress them so that it portrays the characters without them not even speaking. After reading they have to do a ton of research to understand the setting and time period. What would a show be without a set that truly shows the time period?

5. Practice makes perfect

The theater community is very competitive. Actors and designers are constantly working on bettering themselves and they're skills. No actor or designer is ever perfect and there is always new things they can learn and new challenges they can overcome. So where some people get out of college and work 9-5. An actors job is never over which shows their determination.

Theater majors may be the most intelligent but they're also having the most fun while they're doing it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
