Jumping onto any form of social media, more particularly Facebook, and start scrolling the news feed there will be a guarantee that several people you have come into contact with throughout the years are posting about getting engaged or welcoming a new bundle of joy. While all of that is perfectly lovely, and that there is nothing wrong with someone finding another person to spend the rest of their life, it becomes a different tune when all of a sudden members of your family start hounding you with questions: When will you get married? is there any lucky guy (or gal)? When will there be a baby, you know I'm not getting any older?
While what they ask these questions seem innocent mixed with true curiosity those kind of questions can trigger certain people. This is especially due to the fact that there are several people out there who are truly content with being single for the rest of their lives and not have a child, and when they begin to defend their own decision they are instantly shot down with the oldy- but goody, "You'll change your mind?" That's not necessarily true.
Although there is nothing wrong with wanting to be in a relationship or even having a baby, it is not meant for everyone. So, what are the positives that can come with being single?
1. TRAVEL
Hindsight 20/20, yes you can travel with kids, but most of the time it will be rather hard to take them to another country when in fact that they should be in school. But all in all it is a lot more fun just traveling either by yourself or with some friends, it makes the trip so much more fun.
2. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH
Some, but not all, relationships can actually deteriorate a person's mental health, thus making them susceptible to having more nervous breakdowns and becoming unstable. When you are single you are able to focus on yourself, not worrying about a baby crying in the next room having been woken up by a neighbor dog barking. Therapy, medication, exercise, meditation, whatever it may be, becomes a big part of your life because it is attempting to help you heal from whatever trauma you may have endured.
3. MORE OPEN TO LIFE
Life is already crazy as it is, but when you are single you are able to be more opened to whatever life may throw your way. This helps you become a self-sufficient person in the end.
4. WHAT DO YOU WANT?Ask yourself this question, what do you want out of life? Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years, or may be even 3 months from now? When you are single you are able to take the time to figure out exactly what you are looking for out of life. It could very well be a relationship in the end with a baby on the way, or it could be something completely opposite of that.
5. BECOME FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE
Let's call it what it is, relationships not only take valuable time and effort, but it also takes a lot of money. Gifts, flowers, date nights, presents, all of it costs money. When you are single you are able to focus on your financial goals, and be able to save up enough money for not only a rainy day or even emergency fund, but you might even be able to save money to put a down payment on a house when you are ready.
