Well, the worst holiday of the year is upon us: Valentine's Day. The ultimate Hallmark holiday, February 14th, had religious origins; but now it is all about love love love, right? Wrong. Single or in a relationship, here are some reasons why Valentine's Day is the actual worst.
1. If you're alone, it sucks.
Being single on Valentine's Day can feel pretty pathetic. All day long you're scrolling through Twitter and seeing all the cute couples professing their love, meanwhile you're eating Ben and Jerry's and just longing for someone to cuddle with.
2. If you're in a relationship, it sucks.
There are always expectations that come with Valentine's Day when you're dating someone. Either you do too much or too little, and more often than not, you and your partner will end up feeling some sort of disappointment.
3. It costs too much.
Valentine's Day is hella expensive and for basically no reason. The last thing anyone wants to do is spend $30 on a bunch of chocolate covered strawberries or roses that will no doubt be wilted two days later.
4. It's become about corporations making money.
This goes back to what I was saying at the beginning: Valentine's Day is the ultimate Hallmark holiday. It's all just a ploy to get people to spend money without any the original meaning behind it.
5. Why only spend one day showing people you love them?
In actuality, showing your affection on Valentine's Day is pretty pointless if you really love a person. Instead of making some grand gesture on a stupid holiday, show them you care by showing you love them in little ways throughout the year.
