When people hear that you’re in a long distance relationship (LDR) they grimace, they snort, and they question. But what I’ve found is that a long distance relationship is nothing to fear. Actually, it’s just as rewarding and wonderful as any local relationship you might find yourself in. With the help of online dating sites and social media, being in a long distance relationship is easier than ever. Here are 5 reasons why you should give a LDR a try.
1. You get space
I know space is the last thing you want when it comes to your significant other, but space is crucial for the growth and success of both you and your sig as individuals, but also as a couple. You need the room to grow and the space forced upon you in a long distance relationship provides that.
2. The time together is better
This one you hear all the time, but the importance of it could not be more real. When you see your sig every day you can fall into an emotional rut. You forget to fall in love every day. When in an LDR you get to re-experience your first date every time you're together; butterflies at every reunion.
3. Your love is tested.
What better way to know if your love is real than to put it through the ultimate test. A long distance relationship is one of the hardest things you can put your heart through, but at the end of it you get the love of your life and you know it’s true. If the love can survive the miles it will survive the years.
4. You learn to be alone.
This is one of the hardest lessons to learn. That it’s okay and healthy to be alone. There’s nothing wrong with being the social butterfly but sometimes you need to hang up your wings and be by yourself. Long distance relationships are lonely, but they teach you the importance of me-time. No matter how much you love your friends and your sig, you need time to be alone to love yourself too.
5. It doesn’t last.
It may not feel like the end is ever in sight, but one day you and your sig will wake up in each other’s arms knowing your love is genuine and you are a better couple because of it.
