5 Reasons To Shop Small And Locally For The Holidays

'Tis the season for giving. Typically around the holiday's shops start promotions. The malls are crowded, you can't find your size or exactly what you're looking for, and you end up getting frustrated. So instead of buying from big corporations, here's why you should shop locally from small businesses this season.

1. Everything is authentic.

Typically things are handmade, or individually made with intense craftsmanship and a lot of time goes into making each product. This comes with a lot of sentiment. Also, you would know your item is one of a kind. No two will be exactly the same! How cool is that?

2. You can basically customize anything.

If you buy from small businesses or local business near you, typically any design can be altered or customized to the way you want it or like it. Things like different colors, designs, and sizes can be altered. But if you buy off the rack at a big corporation, your item is going to be like everyone else's.

3. You are helping the owner.

Whether the artist or creator is already well known or just getting their name out there, regardless you are spreading their craft and helping them establish their small business. Even if you feel like you're not giving back, you are. Every little thing counts.

4. You can establish a relationship.

If you find a small shop you like, it never hurts to come back to the shop and continue to buy from there. Whether it's online or in person, you can connect with people around the world who you might not have had the chance to before.

5. Some small businesses are online

Shops on Etsy are typically all products which come individually made. While they can be made in bulk, the design or making the final product all comes from one small business. So, avoid the lines in store, and shop from the comfort of your own home!

Hopefully, I've convinced you to shop small and support your local business!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
